THE PROCESS

How it works

Better At Us has been designed to give you the flexibility to work on your relationship in your own time, while still having professional guidance to help you get the most from the framework.

You won’t simply receive the materials and be left to work out what to do with them. I’ll learn something about your relationship before we meet, help you understand how to use the framework and remain available for further guidance once you have started.

THE DETAIL

The five steps.

1.

Join Better At Us and receive your framework

Once you have paid, you’ll receive an email containing your password and instructions for accessing Better At Us.

You’ll be able to download all six parts of the framework from the beginning. These are your working materials and contain the information, relationship skills, exercises and questions that you’ll work through together.

You don’t need to complete all six parts and there is no set order. The framework has deliberately been designed so that you can concentrate on the areas that are most relevant to your relationship.

2.

Complete your individual questionnaires

At the same time, you’ll each be asked to complete a questionnaire independently.

Your completed questionnaires are automatically sent to me. They give me an opportunity to understand something about each of you, your experience of the relationship, what is already working well and where there may be areas you would particularly like to improve.

I personally review both questionnaires before we meet.

The questionnaires aren’t a test and there are no right or wrong answers. Their purpose is to help me make our time together as relevant and useful to your relationship as possible.

3.

Your initial 60-minute meeting with me

Once I’ve reviewed both questionnaires, I’ll contact you to arrange our initial 60-minute meeting.

This is an opportunity for me to properly orientate you to Better At Us rather than simply leaving you to read through the materials yourselves.

I’ll take you through the six areas of the framework and explain how they fit together. We can discuss where it might be most useful for you to begin and how you can approach the work in a way that suits your particular relationship.

I’ll also answer any questions or concerns you have.

Having read your questionnaires, I may have some more specific thoughts about things that could be particularly helpful for you to work on, things to be aware of, or moments that might be more challenging for you as a couple. Where appropriate, we can talk about how to recognise and deal with those situations if they arise.

If I think it would be helpful, I’ll also send you some of my thoughts or guidance in writing after our meeting so that you can refer back to them as you work through the framework.

4.

Begin working together

You then begin using Better At Us together at home.

There is no weekly timetable and no expectation that you complete a particular amount of work. You decide when you work on your relationship and which parts of the framework are most useful to you.

You might choose to work through one area in detail, use a particular exercise because it relates to something happening between you, or move between different parts of the framework as your relationship develops.

The important thing isn’t how quickly you get through the material. It is what you begin to understand and do differently as a result of it.

5.

Further guidance when you need it

Once you begin, you still have access to me.

Your Better At Us package includes a further 60 minutes of my time during your first four months.

You can use this as one 60-minute meeting or two 30-minute meetings.

You decide when that support would be most useful.

You might want to talk through something you’ve discovered while working with the framework, get help with an area where you’ve become stuck, check that you’re understanding or applying something correctly, or ask for guidance about a particular difficulty that has arisen between you.

The purpose is to give you the independence to work on your relationship yourselves, without feeling that you have been left entirely on your own.

IS THIS FOR YOU?

Designed for couples with a fundamentally good relationship who want to make it even better. Better At Us isn’t intended for relationships currently in crisis or situations where either partner feels unsafe.
